ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Vikings are not expected to place the franchise tag on Sam Darnold, but they are open to bringing him back. Writer's Analysis: Minnesota would have to pay Darnold around $40 million if they place the franchise tag on him, so that is unlikely. While they could still give him another contract, that seems unlikely as of now compared to what offers Darnold may get from other teams in free agency. This will be a situation to monitor heading into free agency as J. J. McCarthy continues to rehab.
